Therapy at Elevated

I most frequently utilize EMDR and parts work in my sessions with clients, who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and recent life stressors. Research shows the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of successful treatment. In the first few sessions, we will focus on building this relationship by exploring your current problems, your strengths, personal history, and goals and expectations for therapy and life. During this time, we will also focus on building your internal and external resources, like self-care, your support system, and grounding techniques to use in and out of session. From there, we will decide together what treatment interventions are best and most appropriate for your needs.

EMDR

EMDR specifically guides us to get to the root of our symptoms. EMDR is most known for its efficacy in treating PTSD and other post-trauma responses. This therapy is different than talk therapy, because we will use eye movements or tapping to help your brain process a difficult memory. I always provide clients with resources from evidence-based journals to explore how EMDR works, and I provided psychoeducation in sessions before we choose to move forward with it. We will also spend a considerable time building resources, including coping and grounding skills, before we reprocess trauma memories. EMDR can also be used for clients with anxiety, issues with attachment, and other types of distress.

Parts Work

If you’ve ever said “there’s a part of me that (insert thought here), but another part of me that (insert opposing thought here)”, then you’ve experienced your parts. Parts work is a therapeutic approach where we identify those parts of self and resolve the conflicts between them. In many cases, conflicts between our parts can cause a blockage in our emotional healing. By teaching our parts to work together, we can resolve the conflict that keeps us from healing, and feel more integrated, unified, and embodies as a result. If you are feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns and struggle with changing your behaviors, parts work may be right for you.

Holistic Care

My approach to therapy is person centered, and holistic. I create a compassionate, safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore. I am happy to work with other service providers, including your psychiatrist, other mental health care professionals, OBGYN and birth workers, primary care doctor, and other holistic doctors, to provide the best care to you.

Cultural Sensitivity

We cannot have trauma-informed without cultural sensitivity and humility. One of my core values is to continue conversation around culture and identity, my own biases, and world events that may be traumatic for specific populations based on culture. I seek frequent consultation on this and am always open to any and all feedback from clients on this matter.
